Mountain Express: Sun Valley Co. Says Stay Off Baldy

Sun Valley officials are cautioning Wood River Valley recreationists to stay off Baldy.

This morning's Idaho Mountain Express reports the Sun Valley Co.'s safety agreement with the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management requires them to keep recreational activity off of Bald Mountain while they prepare Baldy for the upcoming ski season.

"As we progress toward opening for the winter ski season, we ask the mountain community to advocate safety for locals and visitors," Sun Valley Co. spokesman Jack Sibbarach told the Mountain Express. "Once normal operations resume, our standard uphill policy will be implemented."

In 2013, Sun Valley Co. began a policy banning uphill foot traffic on Baldy during ski season, according to the Mountain Express, prompted by an increased number of hikers during the winter season. The policy is enforced by the Sun Valley Ski Patrol, and officials say people who ignore verbal directions could be arrested.
