Garden City Police Officer Resigns Following DUI Arrest

A Garden City police officer has resigned from his department in the shadow of a second DUI arrest.

Meridian Police report that they were summoned to the officer's Meridian home Nov. 18 on an unrelated matter but determined that the suspect had been driving while intoxicated just before the officers arrived. The suspect was taken to the Ada County Jail, where he submitted to a blood-alcohol test and was charged with excessive DUI. The suspect had a previous DUI conviction in 2005.

Jay Compton, 44, a lieutenant in the Garden City police force, posted bail and has a trial date set for Monday, Nov. 24.
