Tribune: Improved Attendance for Second-Chance Jurors

Posted By on Tue, Dec 2, 2014 at 9:09 AM

More than a few court-watchers were curious to see how many prospective jurors would walk into a Lewiston courtroom on Monday.

This past summer, nearly half of those citizens called for jury service in a rape trial were no-shows, prompting the judge to delay the proceedings until this week. But this morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that 2nd District Court Judge Jeff Brudie gave the prospective jurors a second chance and this time, 70 out of 80 showed up.

"It's a huge improvement over last time," Nez Perce County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney April Smith told the Tribune

It took a full day to seat 13 candidates, according to the Trib. And before the other 57 were dismissed, Brudie indicated that he would hold the 10 no-shows accountable for their decision to ignore the summons.
