Petition, Ethics Complaint Targets Gooding School Superintendent

A push to oust the school superintendent in the Magic Valley community of Gooding is gaining momentum, according to the Twin Falls Times-News, which reports this morning that local residents have started a petition and filed a state ethics complaint against the school official.

Gooding School Superintendent Mary Larson is being targeted for what some residents say is "dissension in the district" that is now affecting students, "our most defenseless, vulnerable citizens," the petition reads.

A formal ethics complaint alleges that Larson "created a hostile workplace and is violating four principles under the Code of Ethics for Idaho Professional Educations, including exemplifying honesty and integrity, responsibility with public funds and complying with confidentiality laws," according to the Times-News.

Larson has only been on the job since July, when she took the job after the district conducted a nationwide search. But a North Dakota newspaper reports that Larson received an overall "unsatisfactory" mark in a recent yearly review of her previous work as Strasburg (North Dakota) School District superintendent.

In November, Larson received a "no confidence" vote from 90 percent of the Gooding district's employees.
