Video: Idaho Judge Faces Dismissal Petition for 'Insubordination'

A North-Central Idaho judge's days on the job may be numbered but he's fighting the result of a closed-door meeting that triggered his possible dismissal.

KLEW-TV is reporting that Judge Bruce Plackowski represents the area in and around the community of Lapwai, which includes members of the Nez Perce Tribe. Plackowski wasn't elected to the post. He's in the second year of a four-year contract with the tribe to serve as a judge.

The Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee, in a recent executive session, took up a removal petition to oust Plackowski from the bench. In particular, the petition accuses Plackowski of insubordination.

But an attorney representing Plackowski says insubordination isn't in the code of misconduct for a judge.

"We don't think a judge can be insubordinate to anyone," attorney Tim Gresbeck told KLEW-TV. "Judges should have autonomy. Judges should be independent."

And since Friday's executive session of the Tribal Executive Committee, a "no comment" order has been issued.
