Idaho School District Mulls Starting School Year Even Earlier

Posted By on Mon, Dec 15, 2014 at 9:18 AM

How early is too early when it comes to starting the new school year? One Idaho school district is considering the possibility of starting its school year as early as Aug. 20.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News is reporting that trustees in the Twin Falls School District are mulling a proposal that would see an earlier start in an effort to align their calendar with the College of Southern Idaho, where some high-school seniors take dual-credit classes. In return, students would have a bit longer spring break.

But local coordinators of the county's 4-H program say the earlier start would have a definite impact on their county fair participation. The Times-News reports that more than 200 Twin Falls School District students participated in 4-H programs this year.

Twin Falls School District trustees are expected to take up the proposal during their January session.
