One of the regular challenges facing the Valley County community of McCall has been the availability of affordable or low-income housing, particularly for the workforce that serves the resort industry.

And this coming Wednesday, Feb. 4, McCall will host a public forum allowing its citizens to weigh in on a proposed 36-unit low income apartment complex should be built right behind McCall City Hall. This week's McCall Star-News reports that the a development group is look for a long-term lease of city land to build what it's calling the Northwest Passage apartment complex. The plan is for VCD LLC and Northwest Real Estate Capital Corp. to lease the 1.7-acre for $1 per year for at least 65 years.

Meanwhile, developers say they're facing a Friday, February 13th deadline to file an application for federal low-income  housing credits. Ideally, they would like to begin construction in the spring of 2016.

The public forum is set for this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at McCall City Hall.
