Moscow police say they'll maintain a presence at a local elementary school in the wake of the discovery of notes threatening gun violence at Russell Elementary in Moscow.

This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that Moscow police have identified the alleged perpetrator as a juvenile male and a student at the school, but did not comment on whether charges would be filed.

"That is something that is being discussed," Moscow Police Lt. David Lehmitz told the Tribune, adding that two separate notes had been brought to his department's attention. That's when police compared the handwriting on the notes to that of students at the school.

The school went into a modified lockdown on Tuesday, keeping all outside doors to the building secured. The Tribune reports that students were escorted into the school and had their coats and backpacks searched.

"Times have changed," said Moscow School Superintendent Greg Bailey. "Unfortunately we have to be prepared for any type of crisis in this day and time."
