Update: 5:15 p.m.:

A Nampa man has been arrested and is in Canyon County Jail after Boise Police received numerous reports of a reckless driver in Boise.

Boise Police were investigating the reports at approximately 4 p.m. Feb. 14 on West Cesar Chavez Lane. Some reported that a green pickup truck had driven onto the sidewalk and struck a bench, as well as nearly hitting a pedestrian. When officers pulled over a vehicle matching witness descriptions, the driver briefly pulled over, then fled with officers in pursuit.

Boise Police stopped their pursuit when the suspect headed northbound on Capitol Boulevard and into heavy traffic. An officer parked above the I-84 connector observed the vehicle speeding westbound, nearly causing several crashes.

Officers followed the pickup as it traveled along the Interstate. When one patrol car turned on its overhead emergency lights, the pickup again accelerated, forcing a van off the roadway.

The vehicle left the Interstate at Garrity Boulevard in Nampa, where he was pulled over by officers. Again, the suspect attempted to drive away, nearly striking a Meridian Police officer before being stopped. A breath alcohol test showed his blood alcohol content was .198/.194.

Gabriel A. Garcia, 24, of Nampa, has been charged with misdemeanor DUI, felony eluding officers and felony aggravated assault.
