Hail to the Chef, We Mean Chief ...

Posted By on Fri, Aug 3, 2007 at 4:00 AM

We here at Boise Weekly fully understand the desire to honor our country’s leaders: a statue of George Washington here, a bust of Thomas Jefferson there. But we’re thinking our 40th president might have been better served had someone run a spell-check.

One attentive reader recently brought it to our attention that a paving brick in Boise’s Capitol Park is, well, misspelled. The brick meant to honor Ronald Reagan is actually inscribed with the name “Ronald Regan.”

We might have been willing to dismiss this as a possible homage to a man with a strikingly similar name to that of the Great Communicator, that is if it wasn’t for the title of “US President 1981-1989” under the name. No mistaking who they meant.
