Minnick Gets the Big Guns

Posted on Thu, Apr 17, 2008 at 4:00 AM

Walt Minnick was hoping for national Democratic Party support in his fight to unseat Rep. Bill Sali, and now he's got it.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced today that Minnick is now part of the group's Red to Blue program, designed to give support to strong Democratic challengers in Republican-held states.

Minnick is one of 14 candidates to qualify for the program, which requires that participants surpass fund-raising goals.

“Walt Minnick’s Idaho values, experience as a business and community leader and commitment to bringing people together to solve problems make him an independent, effective voice for change for Idaho’s families," said DCCC chairman Chris Van Hollen in a written release. "The Red to Blue Program will give Walt the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive.”

The Red to Blue program puts candidates in a national spotlight and gives them financial and strategic support, as well as introducing them to donors across the country.

In 2006, the program helped raise $22 million for 56 campaigns.

Minnick became the Democratic nominee when Larry Grant dropped out of the race last week.

Grant, who has pledged to support Minnick, decided to go straight to the voters with his explanation of why he decided to leave the race in a new video. Check out the link.
