"The Ruins" nearly ruined my day off

Posted By on Sat, Aug 8, 2009 at 9:48 PM

Working from home on Friday offered me the luxury of not only a very relaxed dress code (Casa de Atkins management takes casual Friday to a whole new level) but also of slipping a Netflix movie into the DVD player while I worked. As my co-workers will attest, I often have a couple of programs providing sensory input as I toill. It's my version of white noise.

So while I worked on Best of Boise editors' picks, blogs and general writing tasks, I queued up The Ruins (2008): Four attractive American 20-somethings on a Mexican vacay head off into the jungle without telling anyone where they're going and run into trouble in the form of a man-eating vine. Duh and ugh. I'm not a fan of films in which villain duties are shared by stupidity and a non-human entity.

I should have paid attention to the advice offered by BW's resident Vidiot, Travis Estvold, on this one. Next time I'm working from home, I'll stick to watching reruns of 30 Rock.
