Fry Celebration

For the Boise Fry Company, it’s the same fries, just a new name.

The restaurant formerly known as the Idaho Fry Company will officially rechristen itself with its new moniker at a grand re-opening celebration on Friday, Oct. 2.

From 11 a.m.-9 p.m., the Boise eatery will host a celebration that is the end result of an agreement between the restaurant owners and the Idaho Potato Commission, which cried foul, claiming it had a copyright on all references to potatoes where "Idaho" was concerned.

The community rallied around the Fry Company, which decided to change its name since it couldn’t afford the cost of legal action. The Potato Commission offered to chip in for the cost of the name change.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter will be on hand beginning at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, with a ribbon re-cutting at 12:30 p.m. MT Theory’s breakdancers will join the celebration from 6-8 p.m. and, most importantly, the Boise Fry Company will offer drink and fry specials all day.
