I received a phone call this morning asking if I would be a judge at the Donnie Mac's Presents: Boise's Got Talent semi-finals, with 94.9 The River's Tim Johnstone as emcee.

People who know me know I seldom—if ever—turn down a request to sit in judgment. A friend recently commented that if I have a character flaw, being too judgmental is probably it. Not one to fight my nature, I accepted the request.

Made up of singers, songwriters and musicians, Boise's Got Talent has been full of such high quality performances up to this point that eliminations have been tough, said organizer Jodi Peterson (marketing director of the Idaho Green Expo). She's sure further winnowing the 23 who will compete tomorrow night down to about a dozen will prove to be even more difficult.

Peterson sent me the following list of performers (in no particular order, with a little info if I had it, possibly subject to change) who will stand in the cold, in Donnie Mac's parking lot on Thursday, Oct. 15, starting at 6 p.m., and put it all on the line for a chance to walk away the winner.

Brianna Russell, 16-year-old singer/songwriter; Gene Sanchez, sings and plays guitar; Aaron Roth, 23-year-old Smashing pumpkins sound-alike; Rob Paper, singer/songwriter sounds like Jack Johnson; Davis French, singer/songwriter; Michaela French, Swiss woman plays guitar and sings; Out of Order, teenage band;
Terry Jones and Gemini Found, drum, guitar and Indian flute; Jammne Jazz with Ellie Shaw, 13-year-old plays fiddle and scats while mother plays guitar; Blue Aces, 17-year-old blues players; Lauren Sparks, 12-year-old singer with a big voice; Workin' on Fire (pictured above), 10th grade rockers; Amelia and Marissa, 15-year-old singers; Jared Hillock, plays marimba; Dan Costello, singer/songwriter, guitar player; Becky Tucker, folk singer; Ryan Bayne, plays guitar, harmonica and sings; Luke Atkinson, singer, guitar player; Boses, vocal group from the Philippines; Alex Rinker, 12-year-old plays electric guitar; Sammi Swenson, 7-year-old opera singer; Travis McDaniel, 17-year-old singer/songwriter sounds like Curtis Stigers and Modern Sirens,

It's going to be a long, music-filled night.
