A Little Extra Attell

My recent conversation with veteran comic Dave Attell was one of the most entertaining 40 minutes I've had. I laughed through plenty of it, but even over my own guffaws, I caught a couple of good ones.

Here's one I didn't have room for in print.

"I was just in Des Moines which was interesting. All of the restaurants close at 10 p.m., but there's definitely some obesity there. There's some hoarding going on. Someone's got a Subway or Blimpie in their basement. After the show, I'm like, 'Where's the food?' And they were like, 'There isn't any. Don't even think about it.'"

Another thing I didn't have space for in print was the discussion we had about social media. Attell said he doesn't really get Facebook or Twitter but knows he should have a presence there and so has someone maintain those sites for him. He said he does check Myspace but was surprised to hear that a couple of episodes of Dave's Place were still up on his Myspace page.

Dave's Place was an online series that Attell created because he wanted something that was Internet only and he wanted to do something he had total control over. The dancing booze bottles in the opening are a little silly but once you watch the whole thing, even they make sense. I hope he decides to bring Dave's Place—or something like it—back to life.
