From the congested e-mail inbox of the A&E editor: HIM Has New Album (And No, That's Not Baby Talk)

At the Sasquatch Music Festival in 2006, when adorable Finnish fellows HIM hit the stage, the crowd on the grassy hill became a sea of wavy heartagram adorned arms, legs, T-shirts, headbands, hats, bandanas, socks and more.

Today, those fans' little heartagrams are probably exploding with love: HIM released a video for their new single "Heartkiller," the first off their new album Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, due out on Tuesday, Feb. 9 (Sire Records).

The video, much like HIM's music, might have seemed groundbreaking in the '80s. Cheesy fades, spinning stuffed animals—I counted an owl, a lion, a fawn, a mountain goat, a boar, a hawk, a dove, a peacock, a wolf, a monkey, a duck, a crane, a bat(?), a bear and an angry bunny. But the spinning, brooding requisite hot chick and spinning band members all aside, the song, rock with a nod to pop, and a desire to be alternative metal, is definitely appealing.

And frontman Ville Valo's delivery, although a bit nasally, is so earnest it's hard not to believe him when he sings "Sparks will fly / beneath the luna light. / Lazarus and Frankenstein's. / Babe, I'll be a flatliner for a heartkiller." (I have no idea what any of that means.)
