Want a free short stack of flapjacks? Head to any Boise IHOP location today from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and celebrate National Pancake Day with your own small sugary pile, free of charge. Guests are invited to make a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network, which will help benefit the St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital in the Boise area. Since 2006, IHOP has raised over $3.25 million for local charities in communities across the country with their National Pancake Day celebration.

But what exactly is this sticky-sweet holiday, you might ask? According to IHOP’s Web-site, “National Pancake Day dates back several centuries to when the English prepped for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products ... hence the name Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday.” This year’s hotcake hoedown has been pushed back to a week after Fat Tuesday to maximize donations for the CMN.

If you want to snag your own free stack, hop to it. We hear the lines can be brutal.
