Art and Craft Sale This Weekend

Posted By on Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 5:37 PM

Have you been getting crap from your co-workers for bringing a boring ol’ PB&J in your sack lunch every day? Well, the next time Suzie gives you sass-mouth, you can put her in her place. “This jelly, my dear, is actually locally made tequila sunrise jelly that I purchased at an art and craft sale last weekend. Does your Lean Cuisine get you buzzed? Me thinks not.”

To pick up a jar of tequila sunrise, margarita or jalepeno jelly—or a number of other items made by 16 local artists, crafters and jewelry makers—head over to the former Treasure Garden building off Ustick from Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 14. The arts and crafts sale is sponsored by BODO vintage boutique Atomic Treasures, which also owns the Ustick building space.

“We’re trying to sell the building but it’s just sitting there, of course, because commercial real estate is not selling,” said Atomic Treasures owner Cindy Allen. “So, we thought we’d just do something there.”

In addition to purchasing handmade art and craft items, shoppers can also buy or trade an array of craft materials and art supplies with vendors on-site. Allen hopes that this event, which will return the second weekend of the month in April and May, will help give local artisans an opportunity to get their repurposed and reused products out into the community.

“There’s a lot of galleries but there’s not a lot of places for beginners and us dabblers that aren’t trying to make a living out of art,” said Allen. “But we’d like to sell our art so that we can keep making it.”

11 a.m.-6 p.m., FREE, old Treasure Garden building, 6521 Ustick Rd., 208-344-0811. For more information, contact
