Burning Question of the Day

Here we are in a hot mess of an election season with candidates on the one hand railing against the lack of financial responsibility that wastes valuable taxpayer dollars, and on the other hand advocating absurd uses of those same dollars like planting landmines along the border with Mexico, or waging a military war against the federal government.

But to take a step back from those absurd and costly plans, elections cost money. And every candidate that runs is using some amount of taxpayer dollars to do so. But if they have little to no chance of being elected, and are advocating absurd plans that they themselves know will never come to pass, that serve primarily as symbolic firebrands, are they wasting taxpayer dollars by doing so? Or is that the essence of democracy, to let all ideas, no matter how bizarre, play out on a public stage?

Today, Questionland wants to know.
