Need Something to Do Monday?

With the democratization of music that came with more accessible recording technology and rock and roll, it can be argued that something was lost. Sure, there's larger access to songs and styles for consumers, and opportunities to play in bands have been greatly expanded. But to make that happen, some of the glitz, the magic, the idea that a band was a big deal or something to celebrate, had to be stripped away. What was once extraordinary, now lacks that extra pizazz to set it apart.

But tonight, you can get some of that feeling back with the inaugural performance of the Boise Modern Jazz Orchestra.

The orchestra is a 20-piece big band, featuring 15 of the region's best horn players making the kind of sound and experience that can't be recreated with anything less than a full platoon of musicians.

Best of all, the show is free. See, now you're interested.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. tonight at The Bouquet. Bonus points for anyone who shows up in pinstripes.
