Need Something to do Monday?

Posted By on Wed, Jun 16, 2010 at 11:22 AM

In October, Boise will play host to the inaugural Promenade Music Festival, when roughly every band on Planet Awesome will be here playing over three glorious days. Only problem: They're all playing at the same time, meaning you need to be prepared to bounce from show-to-show, possibly even jogging between venues.

Obviously, you'll need a battle plan. But this is rock 'n' roll people, as tight a ship as has ever existed. If a band is supposed to go on at 8 p.m., then you can be assured that it will probably be on by the crack of 9:30 p.m. And if you don't time things just right—just like dominos—it will throw off the rest of your plan of attack.

So tonight, long in advance, why not take a dry run at venue hopping?

Cause what a night it is to be a live music fan in Boise. Two great shows are happening on two floors of the same building, making it the perfect chance to practice hopping between them for Promenade.

At ground level at Red Room Tavern, you can see some great 30-second math rock from Microbabies, and embrace punk's satirical roots with electro-rock duo Vagerfly, seen here in a BW video report. Also playing are Prizzy Prizzy Please, Ooh Baracuda, Cherry Bombs Burlesque and Cabaret. The show is only $5 at the door.

Upstairs at Reef, you can go retro with The Aggrolites, busting old-school ska in the vein of Hepcat or Symarip. Unlike the third-wave sound, this stuff doesn't age at all, and The Aggrolites are masters of the style. Show at 9 p.m. It's $12 you'll be glad to spend.
