Blackberry vs. Saudi Arabia, the Next Battle

Posted By on Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 5:02 PM

Technology is a slippery slope. As more people have access to the latest technology, they also have access to much easier—and faster—ways to share ideas, images and information. But that access is making some governments nervous.

Saudi Arabia has been trying to crack down on Blackberry users, whose instant messages the government can’t access. Now, other countries are joining the bandwagon, including Algeria, Lebanon, Indonesia and India.

China and Google made headlines earlier this year when the communist country wanted the Internet giant to censor certain information. The company fought back, moved its Chinese headquarters to Hong Kong and turned its Chinese-language homepage into a landing page.

Just last month, China renewed Google’s license. But it makes you wonder how this newest battle in the technology/security fight will turn out.
