Last of the Boys at Alley Repertory Theater

From Wednesday, Aug. 18-Saturday, Aug. 28, Steven Dietz’s play, Last of the Boys, will be performed by Alley Repertory Theater at Visual Arts Collective. The play opens a window into the minds of veterans who shirk the idea of relating their terrific accounts of human barbarism experienced during war.

Dietz’s play, directed by Buffie Main, explores the mental and emotional repercussions of war—in this case, the Vietnam War. The story follows two Vietnam vets who get together in an isolated trailer after 30 years of civilian life. The soldiers were brought as close as brothers back in 1967, when an ordinary road to the city of Dak To turned into much more excitement then either of them had asked for. They each find that the other is still tormented by the memories of that fateful night. The production was chosen by ART because of its relevance to present-day war experiences, especially post-traumatic stress effects on its survivors.

The play will run for two weeks, with doors at 7 p.m. and the show starting at 8 p.m. The cost is $15, with a $10 matinee on Saturday, Aug. 28. Visual Arts Collective is a 21 and over venue with beer and wine available for purchase.
