Matthew Wade's "Krawll"

For the last several months, local filmmaker Matthew Wade (It Shines and Shakes and Laughs) has been honing his craft at the Vancouver Film School. As a souvenir, he brought back a new film: Krawll.

Krawll is a 2.5-minute short "completely animated in the traditional style of paper and pencil." In an e-mail to BW, Krawll wrote, "All of it was designed, drawn and animated by hand, by me." Done in a kind of Aeon Flux-y, Les Triplettes de Belleville style, Krawll is a disarming, aesthetically stunning bit of film. The biggest problem with it is that it isn't long enough.

The film is currently showing at the Small Press Expo as part of the Animation Showcase. It is also showing right here.
