Sneak Peek Inside The Matador Tequila Bar

Posted By on Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 8:10 PM

Downtown's new Tex-Mex restaurant chain The Matador hosted an invite-only opening party tonight. The space, where Mesa Taqueria and Opa used to be on Eighth Street, has been completely revamped with an upscale southwest vibe complete with cow skulls, candles and a crazy-long list of tequilas.

The spot makes some killer margaritas—not too sweet with fresh squeezed lime juice—served in a pint glass for a totally reasonable $7 a pop. They also have a happy hour that runs every day from 4-6 p.m. and again from 10 p.m.-1 a.m, with $4 and $5 apps. The staff—who look like they were imported from hotsylvania—was on their game, refilling waters and whisking away plates. I'm seeing a lot more tequila in my future.
