It's Okay If Your Fave Song Is About A Serial Killer

No, really. It's all right. Especially if you caught Blitzen Trapper's rendition of "Black River Killer" last night at the Knitting Factory. Nobody who was there, or has seen them otherwise, will question your choices or your sanity. Those in the know will just want to discuss the other songs on the Black River Killer EP, which all focus on that central theme.

It's difficult to classify this Portland, Ore., band, but that's okay too. Americana, rock, bluegrass, folk—they all work, as the band pulls elements from several genres to produce seemingly effortless music that accompanies the lyrical storytelling they do so well. The sextuplet has been playing together since 2000 and self-produced their first three albums before signing with Sub Pop Records in 2007. They released Destroyer of the Void this summer and stopped in Boise to promote it before heading east in early November. If you were lucky enough to catch the intimate show last night, lucky you. If you didn’t, bone up on the Killer and be prepared for next time. So worth it.
