The Weather Out There Is Frightful ... And It's Going to Get Worse

After the first snowfall, that's the most oft-heard phrase coming from the mouths of people who love this time of year. It may well be, but it can also be extremely dangerous. And this is just the beginning.

This, according to the National Weather Service:

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM MST /4 PM
PST/ THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM MST /4 PM PST/ TUESDAY...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW IN SOUTHEAST
OREGON...THE TREASURE AND MAGIC VALLEYS...OWYHEE COUNTY...SOUTHERN
TWIN FALLS COUNTY...AND THE UPPER WEISER RIVER BASIN REMAINS IN
EFFECT FROM 5 PM MST /4 PM PST/ THIS AFTERNOON TO 5 PM MST /4 PM
PST/ TUESDAY.

* SNOW AMOUNTS...2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE VALLEYS AND 5 TO 10 INCHES IN
THE MOUNTAINS.

* WINDS...SUSTAINED WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 40 MPH
WILL CREATE AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW.

* SNOW LEVELS...AT THE SURFACE.

* TIMING...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW WILL INCREASE THIS EVENING. A
STRONG COLD FRONT WILL PASS THROUGH THE AREA BETWEEN MIDNIGHT
TONIGHT AND 8 AM MST TUESDAY. THIS WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE
STRONGEST WIND AND BRIEF WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS. SNOW WILL TAPER
OFF LATE TUESDAY MORNING OVER MOST OF THE AREA...AND TUESDAY
AFTERNOON IN THE WESTERN MAGIC VALLEY AND SOUTHERN TWIN FALLS
COUNTY.

* IMPACTS...SLICK AND SNOW-COVERED ROADS...ALONG WITH LOWER
VISIBILITIES DUE TO BLOWING SNOW. COLD AND BREEZY CONDITIONS
WILL CAUSE BELOW ZERO WIND CHILLS LATE TONIGHT AND TUESDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW MEANS THAT SNOW
COMBINED WITH STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...
LIMITING VISIBILITIES. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST
TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD...AND WATER IN YOUR
VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

A wicked winter storm may not be the worst part. The Weather Channel says we can expect a high of around 15 degrees and a low of around 4 degrees on Wednesday.

Since many of you will be traveling for the holiday, check your radio, TV or phone apps for weather updates. Be prepared and please stay safe.
