Need Something to do Monday?

Posted By on Mon, Dec 13, 2010 at 10:28 AM

In the small Southern Oregon town I grew up in, the bowling alley tried to tart things up on weekends with "Rock and Bowl," which was pretty much exactly the same thing as regular bowling except the customers got a few years younger, the beers got a few cents cheaper and the music changed from Garth Brooks to The Joshua Tree by U2.

Needless to say, it was a bit underwhelming. Not that that stopped it from being "the place to be Fridays from midnight-3 a.m." Like I said, it was a small town.

But with a name like "Rock and Bowl," it seemed like so much more could have been accomplished. At least a little more rock than just The Joshua Tree. Give me October or give me back Garth Brooks.

Luckily, Boiseans have taken up the cause.

Today marks the start of the uDrove Humanitarian Rock'n Bowl, a week of happenings in celebration of this weekend's big football match-up between Northern Illinois and Fresno.

To kick things off, there's a shindig at The Linen Building, featuring live music, livelier drinks and a silent auction to benefit Commit 65, an attempt to break the world record for sustained flight. There will also be a performance by Phoenix Rising's Allison Holley and Katie Ponozzo of Ophidia Studio.

And that ain't all.

Every night this week is chock full of somethings-to-do, including bands battling, karaoke contests, a TRON party (f@$% yeah) and boozing, boozing, boozing.

Check the full schedule here.
