In August, we told you about a new coffee table book written and designed by ex-BW editor Nick Collias and filled with the works of his grandfather, the esteemed Boise artist John Collias.

Round About the Boise Valley: An Artist's Journey Through Idaho History is an exquisite collection of John's work dating back to his earliest days at Gowen Field as a soldier during WWII. The book also explores his studies at Chicago's famed American Academy of Art and his work at the Idaho Statesman, where, for more than three decades he drew the paper's regular feature, Portrait of a Distinguished Citizen.

Technically, the book could be called a labor of love. Nick grew up surrounded by his grandfather's work, and spent a great deal of time both as a child and an adult in John's downtown Boise studio. But where a "labor of love" doesn't always result in high-quality work, Round About the Boise Valley is both beautifully written and visually stunning.

Nick will be on hand at Rediscovered Books on Friday, Dec. 17, from 7-9 p.m. signing copies of the book.
