Need Something To Do Today?

Whether you like your Americana politicized or expressed musically, you can get it both ways tonight …

Pay tribute to Americana and get back to your roots with the unique stylings of the Hokum Hi-Flyers tonight at Pengilly’s, where they host an old-fashioned jam session. If you’ve got a violin, a guitar, a harmonica, a ukulele or whatever, take it and join in. Or if you just want to sit back and sing along, you can do that, too.

The self-described “old-time weird American” music that the local band is known for is reminiscent of a down-home gathering out by the bonfire where the kids can dance and the grown-ups might share a bottle of moonshine dug up from under the porch. The party goes from 6-8 p.m. tonight and is free.

That also happens to be the time that President Obama will be making his State of the Union address. Chances are that the music won’t stop at Pengilly’s, so if you’re interested in what the Prez has to say tonight, you might want to find a watch party to attend. Click here to find a spot where you can watch—and probably discuss—the speech with other peeps.
