The Homedale Smorgasbord Is No Longer Serving Anyone

Posted By on Thu, Feb 3, 2011 at 3:33 PM

After 50 years, the annual Homedale Smorgasbord will host its final meal on Saturday, Feb. 12.

The smorgasbord began back in 1961 as a means to raise money for Homedale area schools. The event featured a range of foods with Basque, European, Japanese, Mexican and Italian fare showcased by the local population and since its inception, the event has raised more than $250,000 for the local schools.
Organizers are calling it quits due to many reasons, including concerns with food liability, school schedules, low attendance the need to focus resources in other areas of fundraising.

This is the last chance to be a part of this long running event, although you can take a little piece of smorgasbord history home with you: some cooking utensils will be up for sale after the event ends.

The final Homedale Smorgasbord takes place Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Homedale Elementary School, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Cost is $30 for a family of eight (two adults and up to six kids), $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $5 for grades K through 6, $3 for pre-school age tykes. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
