Boise Bike Swap Cancelled For 2011, Back In 2012

What would have been the eighth annual Bike Swap has been cancelled for 2011.

"We've had some great success with it, but it became pretty obvious some years back that the inventory was either being supplied by outside sellers or our stores," said George's Cycles Mike Cooley, one of the organizers of the event. "The inventory being supplied by retailers was [low] in numbers. What has happened this year, is we just don't have any bikes left over."

The bike swap isn't really a swap at all, and was built on the current popular ski swap model: Retail stores make up the majority of sellers, with a few individuals making up the rest (and giving a part of their proceeds for the privilege). With online sites such as Craigslist and eBay as avenues to buy and sell bikes—and so little stock available—Cooley said they couldn't justify the event this year.

But Cooley also said he that talked it over with Vern Padaca of Team Therapeutic Associates-Dobbiaco Cycling & Multisport, George's Cycles' partner with for the swap, and they decided to go to an every-other year format, with plans to be swapping two-wheelers again in February 2012.
