Remember the Friday nights of your childhood when your parents would pile you and your siblings into the back of the car—already dressed in your pjs and wrapped in blankets, freshly popped bags of buttery popcorn in hand, coolers filled with soda at your feet—and head for the drive-in? The double feature would be something along the lines of Gremlins (for the whole family) followed by Purple Rain (for when the kids had fallen asleep).

Times have changed a little. Few drive-ins still exist and there are plenty of other things to do on a Friday night. But this summer, you can still get that nostalgic feeling by taking the family to Cable One's Movies in the Park every Friday night starting at dusk during the months of June, July and August.

All of the films selected to be shown on the big inflatable movie screen at Settler's Park in Meridian are rated G or PG, and have all been released on DVD (or soon will be) in case you do want to check them out yourself before bringing the family out.

That also means the screenings of these movies are FREE. You can purchase snacks there, or you can bring your own freshly popped corn, cooler of soda or bounty from the candy store. Don't forget blankets and/or low-backed chairs.

Astro Boy plays tonight. Check out BWs online calendar or meridiancity.org for a complete schedule.
