Saturday, Aug. 20, Is Project Athena Day in Boise

It's no Talk Like a Pirate Day (which, by the way, is Monday, Sept. 19), but Project Athena day will undoubtedly be more inspirational.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter proclaimed Saturday, Aug. 20, as Project Athena Day in the city in honor of the nonprofit group that kicks off its first three-city national tour in Boise on the same day. As BW readers will remember, Project Athena is a relatively young organization that uses outdoor adventures to help women who have faced life-changing setbacks.

The group will head to Julia Davis Park on Saturday morning for a 5K adventure hike (akin to a team scavenger hunt), a 10K run and a kids' race. All proceeds from the event will help fund the adventure goals set by Athenas—survivors of physical, emotional or medical obstacles who apply for grants from the organization.

Survivors participate for free but here's some equally great news: Early registration for the event is still open, so if supporters get off their butts and register online by the end of today, it will only cost them $35. Day-of registration is $40 for adults and $15 for kids.
