Need Something To Do Friday?

Posted By on Fri, Nov 18, 2011 at 6:00 AM

When you think about it, Christmas elves are kind of a weird concept. They're kind of like cheery sweatshop workers, toiling tirelessly to manufacture gifts en masse for Santa to deliver Christmas Eve.

The artists at Green Chutes' Holiday Artist Open Studio could be thought of as Christmas elves—they create works that can be given as gifts during the holiday season, and the gallery will be decked out with a Christmas tree and "goodies" all weekend—but minus the whole Santa's sweatshop idea.

Meet the people behind the artwork this weekend, ask them about their inspiration, and absorb some holiday spirit from the festive atmosphere. While you're there, pick up some gifts and avoid the department-store madness. You can shop today and Saturday, Nov. 19, from 8 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
