If you have made the long drive from Boise to Portland, Ore., you've likely rattled down the tire-chain-chewed road to La Grande, Ore., for gas or grub. But you probably weren't inspired to dedicate an entire album of intricate folk songs to the small town.

Portland, Ore.'s folk chanteuse Laura Gibson was. Her new album, La Grande, will come out Jan. 24, on Barsuk Records. She describes the town as a place that “people usually pass through on their way to somewhere else, but which contains a certain gravity, a curious energy.”

Barsuk recently released an MP3 of the album's title track, which features an upbeat, galloping drum rattle with Gibson's birdlike warble singing:

"When we've covered our hands in the bone-white clay / and we've shaken the dust from every boot and spur / We have counted our days in planks and rails / we have kept our spirits in the dancing halls."

You can listen to the track here.

Barsuk also announced that Gibson will return to Boise for a special performance at the Neurolux on Feb. 19, with Breathe Owl Breathe.
