Need Something To Do Thursday?

Posted By on Thu, Dec 29, 2011 at 6:00 AM

Ever looked at a piece of art and wondered how it came to be? While artists' statements provide insight into process and thought, wouldn't it be interesting to know more about what went into a great work of art? Maybe Jackson Pollock created his best work after a jazzercise ritual, or perhaps DaVinci got a really great deal on tomatoes one day and was so happy, he started painting the Mona Lisa.

Head to Boise Art Museum today at 12:15 p.m. for Art Break and you can get the lowdown on "The Situation He Found Himself In," the large-scale wood sculpture installation by Portland, Ore., artist Mike Rathbun. You know the one—it's the huge oval that juts 20 feet in the air. You can't miss it. This docent-led tour is free with regular museum admission.
