On Jan. 7 at the Eastwind Community Church in Southeast Boise, 20 to 30 people donned their thinking caps for the first TEDx event in Boise. Local psychologist Dan Timberlake and publishing company owner Mark Russell hosted the event, speaking on topics like the psychology of an organization's workforce.

"I think it went well," Timberlake said. "This is the first time that we’ve tried to do it. We didn’t have corporate sponsorship, and we didn’t have a budget. We paid for anything we needed out of pocket."

They also managed to borrow the church's main room, video camera and sound equipment for free. As the evening wound down, Mark Russell gauged the audience's feedback on the discussions, sparking some positive debate and big ideas. Timberlake hopes to continue the conversation.

"I hate to think of it as a one-year event," said Timberlake. "So I'm thinking already, how can we keep this going?"

Timberlake and Russell will, per TED guidelines, have video footage of the event to come later. The video below of Ken Robinson on education was shown at Saturday's event.
