Need Something To Do Sunday?

Posted By on Sun, Mar 11, 2012 at 6:00 AM

Boiseans are pretty lucky—there are great art and theater communities here, especially for a place that doesn't have the population of urban epicenters like New York City, Seattle or San Francisco. A healthy artistic community makes a city more vibrant and gives its citizens thought-provoking things to do.

The Theater Communications Group understands the importance of the arts, and has organized performances nationwide to raise funds for the Japan Playwrights Association. When Japan was rocked by the Tohoku earthquake last year, so were its theater organizations.

The nationwide event Shinsai: Theaters for Japan involves works from Japanese playwrights and American artists, in addition to pieces crafted by local artists, all donated and performed royalty-free.

Boise Contemporary Theater will serve as Boise's hub for Shinsai. From 6-9 p.m., the public can enjoy a full spectrum of artwork—including painting, acting, dancing and music. The event is FREE, but donations are accepted at the event, as well as online.
