Need Something To Do Friday?

Posted By on Fri, Mar 23, 2012 at 6:00 AM

According to the calendar, spring has officially sprung. Which means flowers, Easter and outdoor activities that don't have anything to do with snow are now in season. So grab your tent and head to the Boise Astronomical Society's Messier Marathon tonight at the Bruneau Dunes State Park. Yes, it's a bit of a drive, but it's Friday, so knock off work early and get your weekend started with a little jaunt out of town. Not feeling like an overnighter? You can definitely make it there in time to gaze at some stars and head back.

The folks from the BAS will be star-gazing and searching for Messiers (which are basically non-comets that 18th century French astronomer Charles Messier cataloged), and you can join in the fun. Be sure to get there before the sun goes down so you don't disturb the gazers with your bright headlights. Visit the Idaho State Parks and Recreation website for more info, or email treasurer@boiseastro.org.
