Treefort: DJ Dug Martsch Sends Tunes Whirling Through the Ether

DJ Dug, aka Doug Martsch of Built to Spill, stood in the DJ chambers at Neurolux March 23 as midnight closed in on day two of the Treefort Music Festival.

Martsch began to spin favorites, ranging from '70s rock to reggae, while a somewhat subdued crowd of Treefort patrons sipped drinks and chilled out in the dark recesses of the bar.

As the evening hedged in on the bewitching hour, the crowd seemed poised to dance, to break out in all directions. And DJ Dug seemed happy to set the the tunes whirling through the ether.

Boise Weekly caught up with Doug earlier in the evening at the Treefort Main Stage and asked him what he thought of the festival so far.

"I'm bowled over by it. Dumbfounded," he replied.

And as for his DJ gig?

"I'm not a real DJ," Martsch said. "I'm just a selector. I'm going to play things people can dance to."

True to his word, Martsch had the Neurolux dance floor filled by 12:15 a.m.
