After a hip-hop heavy set at the Main Stage, the Treefort Music Fest attendees gravitated toward the Owyhee Plaza hotel, where an innocuous ballroom became a dance party charged with local electronica. Boise band Owlright and qp took the stage for DJ sets to create a sweaty-mass of dancing humans.

"We're pushing the envelope in what can be done in an hour," said James Stevens, one half of qp.

Peter Schott, the other half, talked about the history of the Red Room space—a seminal spot in the Boise music scene—in the March 21 editon of Boise Weekly. On Saturday, Mar. 24, he laid down a bass-heavy dance party with his electronic peers.

"We're at the fringes of everything," said Schott.

In a VIP anteroom of the Owyhee dance party, Spenser Leighton, a Denver, Colorado expat visiting Treefort said he was just happy to be a part of the local music scene. It was his first visit to Boise, and he was looking for directions to Skinny Dipper hot spring.

"Here we can see all of the local music scene layered on top of one another," Leighton said. "I didn't realize it was the first year going on. In Denver, it's all corporate. It's nice to walk in your little downtown mall thing and it's not Arby's upon Arby's."
