Winter may be coming to a close in Boise, but Special Olympics Idaho is already looking forward to next year's powder.

Three Idaho Special Olympics athletes are headed to South Korea next winter, having been selected by officials April 23. The athletes, coming from different areas across the state, have been chosen to compete as part of Team USA in the 2013 World Winter Games, to be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Brandon Staley of the Boise Ghostbusters will compete in snowboarding, Andrea Mousseau from the Silver Valley Superstars will compete in alpine skiing, and Jerry Smith from Sun Valley Adaptive Sports will compete in nordic skiing.

Each of the three athletes qualified for the honor by receiving gold medals in the 2011 State Winter Games.

The 2009 World Winter Games were held in Boise. Now the torch is passed approximately 5,000 miles to the Korean peninsula.
