Hatfields & McCoys Blow Away Big Four Varmints

The History Channel made some history of its own last week.

The network, which usually measures its audience in the hundreds of thousands, showed the most-watched event in prime-time television last week, not just once but three times.

The Nielsen Company said this morning that the third part of the Hatfields & McCoys miniseries was seen by 14.3 million people, after the first two parts registered 13.9 million and 13.1 million.

The top program on the so-called "big four" networks was NBC's America's Got Talent, which was seen by 11.5 million people. Cable television hasn't seen Hatfields & McCoys-type numbers since last year's MTV Video Music Awards or 2007's High School Musical 2.
