Scenes From a Scene #052—Reptar

Posted By on Tue, Oct 2, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Athens, Ga., indie-disco wunderkinds Reptar blasted through Boise last week for a lonely Monday show at Neurolux.

What the show lacked in number of attendees it made up for in quality. Despite the band suffering from a variety of maladies, including strep throat, pneumonia and a general existential crisis having to do with the realities of the music business, it blasted out a set like a dance party version of the single rule from Starship Troopers: "Everyone fights, no one quits."

When Reptar closed with a cover of "Age of Consent" by New Order, featuring the horn players from the opening band Rubblebucket sitting in, the band seemed genuinely wowed not only by the response but by its own ferocity.

After the show, Reptar's singer Graham Ulicny described it as a "special time in their lives."

That show, and that interview, comprise the latest episode of Scenes From A Scene, Boise Weekly's continuing video series on local music happenings.
