Need Something To Do Tuesday?

Posted By on Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 6:00 AM

In Detroit, Devil's Night—the evening preceding Halloween—is the evening when hoodlums burn down derelict buildings. In Boise, the festivities tend to be more family oriented.

While most grown-ups don't scribble arson on their to-do lists, the saccharinity of trick-or-treating can leave some of us in the adult category yearning for more mature entertainment.

And some edgier entertainment will spring from an unexpected source tonight at the Ada Community Library's Victory Branch. At 6:30 p.m., the South Boise book hub is hosting a Halloween-themed Grown-up Stories Out Loud event.

The evening will feature video depictions of work from authors David Sedaris and Neil Gaiman. There will also be showings of two films by Jane Merrow, including the premiere of her latest short film and another based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe.
