Scenes From a Scene #055—Hotel Chelsea

Posted By on Thu, Nov 8, 2012 at 3:10 PM

Scenes From a Scene, BWs continuing video series on local music.

A few weeks ago, Boise Weekly ran a review of El Pee, the debut album from Boise pop punkers Hotel Chelsea, in which we said explicitly that the band's sound is decades out of date.

So when we sat down to talk with the band for Scenes From a Scene, we asked them directly: Why play pop punk long after it has ceased being relevant?

The band's answer was like the old tale about the philosophy student asked to answer the question "why?" who responded with "why not?"

"I figure I wasted 10 years of my life playing ska, so I might as well waste a few more playing a dead genre of music," singer Ryan Sampson chuckled.

You can see the rest of his thoughts on irrelevancy in the latest episode of Scenes From a Scene below.

However, if you want to see the band live, Hotel Chelsea will be playing tonight, Thursday, Nov. 8, at Red Room with Boise band The Useless and touring supahstahs Teenage Bottlerocket. That show starts at 8 p.m. and costs $12 at the door.
