Pauly Shore Explains Getting Knocked the Fuck Out

Posted By on Wed, Jan 23, 2013 at 3:28 PM

Comedian Pauly Shore will perform at Liquid Laughs this week. Considering his relatively low profile in the 2000s, it may come as a surprise to some people that Shore is still performing, but the truth is he never stopped.

He even did his best to push high-concept comedy.

One thing Boise Weekly discussed with Shore that didn't make it into the article in this week's issue was a viral video called Pauly Shore Gets Knocked the Fuck Out. The video shows grainy footage of Shore onstage at an Odessa, Texas, comedy club in 2006 being confronted and assaulted by a large man in a cowboy hat. The physical injury only added to the insult his career had become.

The video can be seen below.

But here's the thing: It's fake.

"It was kind of a year or two after the whole Michael Richards thing went down," Shore explained. "I wanted to have the people believe that people in comedy clubs are going crazy."

Shore later released a "making of" video and described it as an "Andy Kaufman moment."

"If anyone did that now, I don't think that people would buy it," Shore said. "Every couple months, people get more savvy."

So if you're hoping to see Shore get knocked out, don't get your hopes up. But what you are likely to see this weekend is a performer who still swings for the fences even though he's been benched for some time.

Shore will perform at Liquid Laughs Friday, Jan. 25, and Saturday, Jan. 26, with shows at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Tickets are $25.
