Like live music and beer? Tonight, you can pair a folk-influenced five-piece from Oakland, Calif., with a couple of local brews from Sockeye Grill and Brewery. Tumbleweed Wanderers claim to be “hair folk,” but their use of poppy electric guitar tones and a keyboard set to organ gives them a throwback retro-rock feel that’s hard to shake off.

Jeremy Lyon and Zak Mandel-Romann formed Tumbleweed Wanderers in March 2011. After recruiting keyboardist Patrick Glynn, drummer Daniel Blum and banjo player-guitarist Rob Fidel, the band completed one U.S. tour with Angus Stone, and is midway through its second.

The band's debut album, So Long, includes smatterings of banjo, trumpets, tambourine and harmonies that culminate in heartfelt combinations of soul and rock 'n’ roll.

Tumbleweed Wanderers are touring the United States through the end of February and have also been added to the SXSW schedule in March. The band will perform at Sockeye Grill and Brewery, 3019 N. Cole Road, at 8 p.m.
