The ethos behind indie music was supposed to follow in the vein of punk rock: no stars, just talent.

But inevitably, marquee indie performers have become institutions. And 2013 seems to be the summer that those institutions are waging war on the musical landscape by dropping awesome bomb after awesome bomb.

The Postal Service is touring again and coming to Boise. Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel is playing the Egyptian Theatre. And now The Shins are coming to Boise, as well.

The Knitting Factory has just announced that the Portland, Ore.-via-Albuquerque, N.M., indie icons will play Boise Sunday, May 12, with Ra Ra Riot opening.

Tickets for the show go on sale Thursday, March 7, at 10 a.m. and will probably sell out at around 10:01 a.m.
